BEAUTIFUL CRATER LAKE, OREGON
EASTMAN STUDIO

It was not without great "hoopla" and a "bang", that this nations
deepest lake [5th in the World @ 1,932 ft.] sprung into existence!
Towering over the Klamath Basin of Southern Oregon at a probable
altitude of roughly 12,000 feet, the top of former Mount Mazama
gave way to collapse in a catastrophic eruption that took place over
7,700 years ago. Continued eruptions fed the lake with molten lava flow, thusly
forming the small island [Wizard Island] that you now see in the above photograph.
Two other such formations remain hidden just below the lakes crystal blue surface.
