Umatilla County, Oregon 1922

Producing one-third of the wheat of the State or about one per cent of the wheat of the nation; ranking first in horse and mule production; second with hay, wool, sheep and honey; third in orchard fruit production; fourth with swine; seventh with beef cattle and poultry; and twelfth in dairy production, Umatilla County is Oregon's greatest agricultural county. Endowed with wonderful natural resources, the county stands in a class by itself. Nearly 50 by 75 miles in size containing 2,049,920 acres, of which half is in farms and the balance used for grazing, it is a veritable empire.

Most of the mammoth combines are horse or mule drawn. One of the reasons why this county has nearly three times as many mules as any other county in Oregon.
